Well, it's been over a year since my last post. Wow, time really does fly! We've been busy with our fourth child and number five is already on the way! This is the first of many posts that I have planned for updating my blog. My "day" job has afforded me some extra time this summer to get back to doing what I really enjoy, so you should see quite a few more posts in the next few weeks.

In the next week I'll be adding photos from my friends wedding to take place this Friday 08.08.08. The image posted with this entry is an engagement photo that I took for Dana and Ryan.

Hello Again

This week I hope to catch up on my posting. I'm also going to start up a blog for my Brother-in-law, Kaille Campbell, who is doing very well in Jr. Football with the Essex Ravens. As soon as I get that up and running I will throw the link up on the right side of this blog.
The image that I have posted here was taken last weekend during halftime. The team shown was down 59-0 to the Sr. Ravens Football team. I got my camera up just in time to catch the last couple helmets up in the air as they cheered themselves on.

At the risk of looking really self absorbed I took a few shots of myself while my wife was driving us home. She really didn't like the results, but I'm sure my mom will like them. It's pretty rare that I end up in photos, so I thought I should make the most of it.

Here's a shot that I took a couple weekends ago when my wife sent me to the store to get ice cream. It was about 19 below zero. The ice cream was still frozen when I got home.

On the way to town the other night I took three shots and I really kind of like this one. It was taken as we rumbled over the rail road tracks. When you look at the image at it's full size the tracks look like a pair of wishbones.

Here are a few photos that I filtered through our dirty windshield the other day on the way into windsor. If you notice any motion blurr on the "solar power" shot that would be because we were travelling at about 80kph. I'm sure my wife wasn't enjoying me leaning in front of her while we drove, but I had fun.

Here are a few photos that I found the other day when I was doing a bit of house keeping on my computer. They were all taken a couple of years ago using our point-and-click. The 50km sign has since been replaced. Many locations that I pick out end up being torn down, replaced or simply fall over. Maybe I like junky stuff or it could be one of those 'seize the day' things.

Our Wedding Day

A few weeks before our wedding day I was turned down the road to my future wife's parents road and I slammed on the brakes. I looked over at Neely and said "here's the spot for our pictures." We found our photographer (Jason Reid) a few days later and the rest is history. Sorry for the cheesy cliche. Five years later and we still love our wedding photos.

Wedding Number Three

Here are a couple of photos taken at the third wedding that I did in September of this year. Doug and Denise were great people and, even though their wedding came third in order, they were the first couple to put their trust in me to do their wedding.

To my amazement the sun actually peeked through the clouds shortly after the wedding and I had a chance to take this 3/4 silhouette. The whole day prior to the wedding was overcast and quite gloomy. Somebody must have been happy.

The gentleman who performed the ceremony for Doug and Denise was Wedding Officiant Steve Green. Steve has over 15 years of experience and did a beautiful job. His comments during the ceremony were very touching and down to earth. I will certainly be getting in touch with Steve the next time my wife and I renew our vows. A link to Steve Green's blog has been posted on the sidebar of my blog. You may see a similarity between his blog and mine. I was the copycat. What can I say? This was the best template Blogger had for my work.

Anyway, Steve's great and thanks again for choosing me Doug and Denise.

Gothic Babies

The image shown here was taken on my very first photo shoot with my first "real" camera (digital slr). It was taken back in June on a construction site. No one was hurt during the shooting of this photograph.

Here's a cover from a set of portraits that I took last month. You may recognize Zach as being baby Mia's boyfriend from last month's entries. The weather was much different than I would have expected for the third week in November! Not that there was anything wrong with that.

Foggy Thursday

This Thursday was a great day for some fog pictures, so I ran out and took a bunch. Some were taken just down the road and some were taken while we were out and about. It was a nice still day so the reflections turned out perfect. In one location, not shown here, the fog made a nice backdrop and whited out a row of houses.
For a few of the spots I'm planning to do a time lapse study through different seasons and weather. You should see some posted during the next year.

Photos from the Second Wedding

Here are a few photos from the second wedding that I took back in September. Another pair of very nice people. All of the shots that you see here were taken prior to the wedding. Amazingly enough the rain held off pretty much all day. With the kind of weather that we had in September it was great that I made it through three weddings without getting soaked once.

The top photo shown here is the flower girl, who also happens to be my wife's grandmother. The bride of this wedding helps with the care of her. My mother-in-law came up with the idea to take this photo for Sue on the morning of her wedding day, as she knew that the couple had not chosen a flower girl for their ceremony. It was a great surprise for Sue.

Flamenco Guitarist - Taras Kovaliv

One thing that I've enjoyed about the few weddings that I have done is meeting some very interesting people. One such person was Taras Kovaliv, who's portrait you see here. Taras played Flamenco Guitar for Rick and Sue who were married at the second wedding that I shot.

Taras is currently building a website of his own to show more about his playing, art and photography (www.taraskovaliv.com). Truly a great person to speak with and listen to, Taras has been all over the world and has seen just about everything. I'm positive that his photography far surpasses my own. I can't wait to watch his website grow!

If you have any weddings or social events coming up I would absolutely recommend booking Taras to play for you. I look forward to working with him in the future. The link to Taras' website can also be found on my sidebar.

Another Black and White Pic of the Week

You may have noticed that I post a lot of black and white photos.

Reason being, I like black and white; however, I do take all of my original shots in colour for couple of reasons. Even if I fully intend to show the photo in b & w, as I had planned with this scene, it is nice to have the option of showing the same scene in colour. I also prefer the results I get using the b & w process on my computer to that of the b & w setting on my camera. Just about the only time I use the setting on my camera is to test a scene to see if it works in b & w.

This shot was taken last Saturday on our way home from Windsor. It was the first time in weeks that I had driven by this spot with my camera in the van. The owner of the property was kind enough to allow me a few moments to take some photos and be on my way. I took about five or six pictures and this was the image that I was hoping for.

Thanks again to the owner, I hope that you like the photo.

Good morning everybody,
I was supposed to be sleeping about two and half hours ago, but I've been checking out my cousin's (Matt Evans') website. Matt is an artist and is living in Japan right now.
"Canadian artist Matthew Evans spent several years making indie/pop/punk/folk noise in a band called The Others before turning his attention to art in the mid 1990’s. Since then he has exhibited and screened his work internationally including shows in Japan, France, Germany, Mexico, China, Korea and Hong Kong. The way Matt uses video, sound and spatial relationships in his installations is very inspiring for me. As an accused artsy fartsy I was compelled to read the description of almost every piece in his ART section posted on his website (www.thepopmodule.com) This would explain why it is now three in the morning and I'm still up.
I also highly recommend checking out the photos of Matt's travels posted on his blog @ www.thepopmodule.com/japan.html . Very cool.
The picture attached to this post is of Matt's friend Mike, who in his free time trains with ninjas. I spend my free time wrestling with three little monkeys, but that's a different story. Getting tired now, must sleep.

Here are a couple more pictures that I really liked from my first wedding. The picture on the bottom gets my mind thinking about what they could possibly be talking about. One funny thing that happened during the shooting of this wedding was that the gentleman second from the left (in the group shot) had a hat that just wouldn't fit right, so in every picture that he was in his hat was a different shape.

Here is a copy of the CD cover that I made for the discs that I put my first set of wedding photo's on. The wedding was a lot of fun and their theme was gangsters. The photo that I placed on the fold in portion of the cover was one of my favourite shots from this group of pictures. It happened completely by accident, but check out the look on the face of the flower girl! It reminds me of a black and white photo that I saw in a Time book called Faces. I'll have to double check the name of that book, but what a great surprise on my first set of wedding shots!

A Walk in the Mud

Here are a pair of portraits that I took last month out in a soggy bean field. These girls and their mom were great about getting their feet muddy. I guess that's one thing you need to be ready for when I'm taking your portrait. I will do my best to check out the scene ahead of time, but to get some pictures you just have to get a little dirty.

The original photo for this poster (top left) was taken in front of our house this passed Sunday night. I started playing around on the computer last night and before I knew it I only had four hours left to get some sleep. If I were to actually print one of these out for someone I would have to adjust the layout a little to fit the print size, but so far so good.

Liam, Mia and Jacob

This is one of my favourite pictures. I took it for one of my wife's friends who she met on mom2mom.ca. Mia, the sweetheart in the middle, was not expected to see her first birthday which she celebrated early last month. She was diagnosed with Ohtahara and suffers from seizures. She's such a little cutie. If you are religious, could you please say a prayer for her and if not you can think good thoughts for her.
